Sulphur is a very important mineral in our bodies. It is needed to build proteins, and they are responsible for a crazy amount of process in our body. Here are just a few responsibilities:
- They act as channels to facilitate the exchange of substances between blood and cells
- Enzymes are a type of protein, and they are responsible to speed up metabolic reactions. Without them your beef burger would take years to digest.
- They are the building blocks of muscle and connective tissue.
- They are needed for skin regeneration; collagen is a protein.
- Moreover, they are needed for effective regeneration of the whole body.
- They are involved in all stages of the immune system and its defence mechanism.
If the protein is not properly built then it cannot perform its function, and thus, our bodies fail to function optimally. This leaves your precious body exposed to illness, slower healing rates and harboring not very attractive organs (skin included).
Our diet, a long time ago, had sufficient amounts of the mineral; however the nutrient quality of food has fallen drastically meaning that it is very likely that you are sulphur deficient. Consequently, if you’re sulphur deficient then your cells aren’t absorbing other goodies efficiently- basically, not getting the maximum benefits from things we ingest. In conclusion, we try and compensate by taking vitamins to make up for what we lack. However, the problem with vitamins and supplements is that the ones sold in shops such as Holland and Barratt and Boots have caking agents, poor quality and we pee most of them out anyway. Good quality vitamins do exist, but they cost much more than the ones found on the high street.
Fortunately, we can do something about the lack of nutrients being absorbed; we can consume organic sulphur crystals. These are manufactured from naturally high sulphur sources, such as tree bark. Note organic sulphur should not be confused with Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) which is a powdered down, and the ‘man handled’ version of sulphur crystals. The more man handled it is, the lower the actual concentration of sulphur in the product.
The consumption of organic sulphur is recommended for everyone (although special measures must be taken for pregnant women as a strong detoxification could harm the baby). You might feel OK but with everything in life there is always room for improvement. Or, you might be experiencing something unpleasant like hair loss, a chronic illness, acne (the reason why I started taking it), stiff joints, painful muscles or some other form of icky-ness we deal with on a day to day basis. The primary cause of these icky conditions will not go away if you sit there and feel sorry for yourself; you need to shake up your mentality (great starter videos in the previous post and this linked post), and secondly, incorporate something like organic sulphur into your life.
How to take organic sulphur crystals
What you need before you start:
-A large pint glass type of container (the more water you can hold the better)
-Plastic measuring spoons that start at 0.5ml and go up to 5ml at least (mine are from poundland)
-Organic sulphur crystals. The two websites that sell legitimate organic sulphur are:
http://organicmsmsulphur.com/ (this one is cheaper but the company is not as fancy so price isn’t fancy either)
-the purest water you can get (I have listed the number of ways you can get it in the lifestyle changes you need to make when drinking sulphur)
Week 1: 0.5 ml (1/8 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 2: 1.2 ml (1/4 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 3: 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 4: 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 5: 5 ml (1 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 6: 5 ml (1 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 7: 6 ml (1 tsp+1/4 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 8: 7.5 ml (1 dsp *desert spoon) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 9: 7.5 ml (1 dsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 10: 9 ml (1 tsp+1/4 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 11: 9 ml (1 tsp+1/4 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 12: 10 ml (1 dsp+1/2 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 13: 10 ml (1 dsp+1/2 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 14: 10 ml (1 dsp+1/2 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 15: 12.5 ml (1 dsp+1 tsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 16: 15 ml (1 tbsp) of organic sulphur crystals, dissolved in boiled water, left over night covered.
Week 17: From here it becomes a bit more complicated. You can continue to increase to 20 ml but it means you have to have more knowledge about sulphur than I have provided here. Or you can start decreasing the amount back to 6-8 ml. IF, you do reach week 17 contact me, and we can talk through it.
*as the weeks go on, increase the amount of water you dissolve the organic sulphur in.
So, as you see it’s a long, and at first tedious process, but as I always say the best thing take time. You need to have the discipline to make the sulphur water every night before bed and to down a large pink of water every morning. But, after a few months you will look back and you will feel proud of yourself that you have stuck to something for that long.
Lifestyle changes to make when drinking sulphur:
-drink only filtered water; this has an absence of chloride and fluoride. Both of these minerals inhibit the activity of sulphur.
-if drinking bottles water drop a few activated charcoal tablets into the bottom so they absorb the two minerals or leave your bottled water over night with the lid off so the two minerals evaporate.
-if you still want to consume tap water after my previous blog post only drink tap water that has been left overnight so the fluoride and chloride would have a chance to evaporate.
-drink boiled water that has been left over night. Boiling water gets rid of loads of nasties that have come off the pipes before reaching your tap, and leaving it overnight evaporates fluoride and chloride.
-brush your teeth half an hour before or after drinking sulphur to prevent the tap water (it has fluoride and chloride) you use to brush teeth getting into your system
-abstain from eating anything for half hour after ingesting sulphur (this rule applies to all natural/herbal medicines you take)
-drink in the morning; your digestive track is empty and ready to efficiently absorb sulphur.
-I like to prepare before going to bed by pouring boiled water over the sulphur, and covering the glass with a plate so the sulphur does not evaporate overnight. All you have to do in the morning is pick it up and drink it.
– abstain from dairy (reasons why in this linked post).
-eat a plant based diet (benefits of this in this linked post).
-drink at least 2L of water a day to keep headaches at bay (importance of water in this post)
-if following a clay detox, which I talk about in this older blog post, drink sulphur in the morning, and the clay mixture in the evening. Do not drink one after the other- your body will be overwhelmed by the detoxification.
-follow the dosing I have outlined strictly as this is not a toy. If you increase your sulphur intake too fast then your body might retaliate as it can’t cope with the detox.
-be patient. If you have had a condition you are trying to treat for two years then accept that it can take two years to get rid of it. You don’t plant a seed and get angry that it hasn’t grown into a flower the following day; nature takes time to blossom- your body takes time to heal.
Sounds like crazy amount of work, right? Well it is and it isn’t. Firstly, try to stick to all those rules but if you don’t then it’s not the end of the world; the effects of sulphur will simply be down played and it will take you longer to reap the benefits. Also, at first, it’s a pain to prepare the sulphur water over night, drink loads of water in the day, eat healthy and all the above mentioned, but after a few months it becomes your lifestyle (obviously it is a pain when you come home tipsy at 2am and need to prepare the sulphur, but so does taking your make up off so we just have to suck those up).
In conclusion, I think it is an amazing lifestyle change that you can make if you really want to care for your body. There are many incredible stories about the benefits people have reaped from sticking with it long term so feel free to do more browsing. There is also a lot of people saying it’s complete rubbish but I would like to question those people how long they stuck with it and did they change their lifestyle appropriately too; so many people dismiss natural medicine because they lack patience and are used to the synthetic medicine pharmaceutical quick fix. And lastly, there is no miracle perfect super-fast working product out there, so don’t expect miracles over night.
